Sara Matulonis, 29
Cruise Planners, an American Express Travel Representative
Fort Pierce, FL
Sara Matulonis worked for Cruise Planners’ corporate office for three years, supporting travel advisors through her digital communications and public relations work. In 2019, she joined her mother’s Cruise Planners franchise as a co-owner and within that short time, she’s helped grow the business by 175 percent. Matulonis is already a member of the Cruise Planners Millionaires’ Club, she’s been selected to present at Cruise Planners’ annual national convention on “best practices for social media” and her family agency is a “Top 30 Cruise Planners Travel Franchise” and a “Top 100 Franchise” for Celebrity Cruises. Matulonis, who has her masters in Global Sustainability, sits on the Hurtigruten travel advisor advisory panel based on her passion for sustainable tourism.
Itinerary design has always been her favorite aspect of travel, she says. At the agency, “I am the primary puzzle master, piecing together all of a client’s ideas and creating the right itinerary for their timing and budget. I love a challenge, whether it’s finding the one cruise itinerary that fits perfectly into their free dates or beating their expectations by tapping into our exclusive sales and promotions to offer clients a vacation they never thought would be in budget. I geek out at the little things like not just finding the best flight times but picking the perfect layover city, knowing that there’s a great airport lounge between the terminals a client will be transferring between.”
“Sara has used her technology skills to build an incredible interactive website for our own annual expo of 25 vendors that resulted in $600,000 in sales directly from the show and website performance,” says Carol Matulonis, Sara’s mother and fellow franchise owner. “Destination weddings, honeymoons and sustainable travel are greatly improved markets for us based solely on Sara’s youth, friends and masters degree in sustainable travel.”
