Selling Weddings: Dress Shopping, Bachelor and Bachelorette Parties

Wedding dress shopping is often done in a city some distance from the bride-to-be’s home, providing the impetus for a road trip with her maid of honor and other girlfriends in the bridal party.

Dress shopping, bachelor and bachelorette parties and more all provide an ideal opportunity for a getaway.

Wedding Dress Shopping

Shopping for the wedding dress usually happens months before the nuptials take place and it provides the opportunity for an urban girlfriends getaway. TV shows such as “Say Yes to the Dress” have made it a popular trend for brides-to-be to travel to New York City (or Atlanta, site of a “Say Yes…”spinoff) in search for the perfect wedding gown. However, boutiques in these two cities don’t have a monopoly on attracting the recently engaged — any major urban retreat will provide a haven for wedding dress shopping.

Travel Agent suggests agents book a long weekend for the bride-to-be and her close family and friends. The weekend will, of course, highlight wedding dress appointments but it will also include some sightseeing, reservations at top restaurants and spa treatments before the group heads home. Remind the bride-to-be that you can also create travel arrangements for her when she goes back to the city for her fittings.

Bachelor and Bachelorette Parties

Bachelor and bachelorette parties offer a convenient excuse to travel. But don’t be surprised if you are seeing fewer Las Vegas extravaganzas and more relaxing, healthy and active getaways. We suggest agents provide some bar and nightclub recommendations to clients, and also have tips on hiking trails, known concerts in the area, creative restaurants and out-of-the-box experiences such as ATVing on hand to entice the entire group.

Remember you may be dealing with the wedding party and not the bride and groom when planning this getaway. Therefore, a good tip is to keep in mind any activities you’ve planned in the past for the newlyweds-to-be, that you know they enjoyed, to help generate ideas.

If agents need help planning Bachelorette-specific activities in a city they are unfamiliar with, we suggest they check out TheBach.com. For the record, the “Top Bachelorette Party Cities,” according to TheBach.com, are Las Vegas, New Orleans, Miami, Austin, New York City and Scottsdale, but this site breaks down party ideas in cities across the country from Savannah to Park City and beyond.
