Why Clients Should Have a Destination Wedding

Some 20 percent of couples considered their wedding a destination wedding in 2016, according to The Knot 2016 Real Weddings Study. This is business travel agents should and can capture if they understand and explain to their clients the benefits of a destination wedding. These include:

Intimate and Personal

Who else but the couple’s closest family and friends—the people they love the most—would fly anywhere in the world to see them say their “I do’s”? If it’s a small wedding with personal touches your clients want then a destination wedding is the way to go. The average number of attendees at an international destination wedding is 64, according to The Knot 2016 Romance Travel Study. Couples can leave the cousins and great aunts and uncles that haven’t seen them since they were babies off the list guilt-free.

Customizable and Memorable

Wedding planners at most resorts that offer destination weddings are at the ready to help couples customize their special day and make it a memory that will last forever, not only for them but for their guests. Clients can decide on a wedding on the beach or on a private island, whether it’s just the two of them or a group of 60 or more. Wedding planners can take it a step further and set up ceremonies within noted attractions of the destination if available. They are also able to integrate the culture of the destination through its food, music, and décor, or even starting with the invitation itself.

It Goes Beyond the Big Day

Encourage clients to plan more than the wedding ceremony and reception for guests if they are doing a destination wedding to keep the party and adventures going. Suggest they have their destination wedding at an all-inclusive property where the majority of activities are included in the single rate. Depending on the property, Jamaica’s four Couples Resorts, for example, can include Ocho Rios and Negril excursions, Dunns River Falls, catamaran cruise, and golf, as well as unlimited PADI-certified scuba diving in the single rate. Watersports, tennis, cooking classes, salsa dancing classes and nightly entertainment are also a part of the cost. Add-ons can include time in the spa before or after the big day. Wedding guests staying in the Oasis Spa Villas at Couples Tower Isle even receive unlimited spa services during their stay. Couples can also wed in one resort, spend some days and nights with their guests, and then move to another Couples property for some alone private time for their honeymoon.

Stress-Free Packages for Them and You (plus More Commission for You!)

Many properties that cater to the destination wedding market have a number of wedding packages (some that are even free for guests) that make the actual planning completely stress-free for the couples and for you, their travel agent. They simply pick the package that works best for their needs, with the opportunity to add on any extras that can include additional photography, video, music, flowers, and other romantic touches.

Couples wedding packages range from complimentary for the couples staying a minimum of three nights for the One Love package to $4,750 (plus $35 per on-site guest) for the Tower Isle Package that includes taking over a private island for the event. Honeymoon packages can easily be added to make sure the couple receives the ultimate in romance throughout their stay. In addition to making commission on the destination wedding guests’ stays, agents get commission on all wedding packages at Couples.
