EasyJet has advised passengers travelling to France and Portugal this week to check their flight status before heading to the airport as industrial action threatens to disrupt flights to and from both countries.

EasyJet pilots in France are planning a walk-out over pay on August 15, 17 and 19, while ground handling staff at Portugal's Oporto and Faro airports are also threatening strike action on August 15 and 17.

The airline said it was hopeful that disruption to flights to and from France will be minimal.

"The industrial action will only affect French based crews, thus not all flights to and from France will be affected," it said in a statement. "Discussions are continuing between EasyJet and representatives from SNPL [the French pilot union] to reach an agreement." It added that, if an agreement is not reached, updates will be published on its website.

The airline also said it hoped disruption in Portugal would be limited.
