State Department Renews Travel Warning to Thailand

The State Department has renewed the previous travel warning issued for U.S. citizens traveling to and residing in Thailand. As of April 20, the government urges U.S. citizens to avoid travel and lodging in areas affected by demonstrations of the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD or "red-shirts").

U.S. citizens are reminded that even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can erupt into violence with little or no warning. Exercise caution if moving around Bangkok.

Political demonstrations are expected to continue in Bangkok indefinitely, affecting traffic patterns. There is possibility for explosives, as several of these attacks have taken place over the past two months.

While travel to the rest of the nation appears to be generally safe, possibility of attack cannot be ruled out.
