Happy Hollow Park & Zoo First Park to Win LEED Gold

Keep-Around-CarouselFollowing its $72 million renovation, Happy Hollow, San Jose's park and zoo is the first amusement park and zoo in the country to achieve LEED gold status by the U.S. Green Building Council. LEED certification is independent, third-party verification of a building project's green building and performance measures.

Happy Hollow earned points for its sustainable sites, water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, materials and resources, indoor environmental quality and innovation and design process.

Having reopened in March, the park's renovations include restoration of the existing ride area and four-acre expansion, including the new Zoo on the Hill, an Education complex, Entry Plaza complex, two more rides, 11 exhibits and new play areas totaling 12,800 square feet. Rides include the Keep-Around-Carousel that features endangered species characters. On-site, visitors can take self-guided green tours of the new facility.
