NWA Donates Green to Green Initiatives

Over the next three years, Northwest Airlines will incrementally donate a total of $1 million to the Nature Conservancy, an organization that the carrier also has partnered with to "green" itself. Northwest dubbed its environmentally friendly program "EarthCares," and has pledged further initiatives in addition to the Nature Conservancy donation--which will protect land in the Mississippi River Valley. Northwest also is spending $6 billion to modernize its fleet, in effect reducing carbon emissions by 25 percent since 2000. Customers will soon be able to support the airline's environmental efforts by making donations on its web site, either in money or frequent flier miles, to combat carbon emissions from their flights.
