Swain Tours, which has been in business for more than a quarter century, is changing its name to Swain Destinations on January 21. The move for the Ardmore, PA-based company is being made to reflect the diverse travel products it sells. A new website will be launched on January 23 as well.
The company started out as “Swain Australia” 27 years ago and moved to “Swain Tours” as it added Swain Africa Tours, Swain India Tours and other destinations. The decision to change from Swain Tours comes as company executives decided to emphasize that it’s actually never sold a “tour,” per se.

"We’ve always customized the travel experience, that’s all we’ve done,” says Ian Swain, the company’s co-founder. “We found that agents would come to us and say they wished they had business for us, but they didn’t have clients going on escorted tours.”
Indeed, Swain Destinations has a team of specialists that craft personalized vacations for clients to locales that include 30 countries on three continents.
The new website will be a more interactive platform for travel advisors, says Ian Swain II, who heads up marketing for the family-owned company and who is overseeing the website launch. New features include optimized user paths, a “find a trip” search feature, detailed sample itineraries and strong social media integration.
