Welcome Tourism Services (WTS), a division of Tourvest Destination Management, has announced the development of its academic tourism market. Following the growth of academic tours, WTS has created educational tours, introducing visitors to the business and economic industries of South Africa, for comparison with other parts of the world.
This fall, WTS hosted a group of American business school deans and directors to the South African market, including members from Columbia, Yale and George Mason Universities, among other institutions.
During their time, they visited global companies based in South Africa, including Vodacom, Adidas and Spier Winery, attended a panel discussion by First National Bank, IBM and South Africa Tourism, and met with South African companies that are involved in major economic activities such as mining, agriculture, telecommunications and financial services.
“In bringing business students to South Africa, not only do we expose them to our SA’s economy, industry, people and culture; but we also expose our country to the up and coming businesspeople of America - the potential leaders of industry,” Sabine Blehle, WTS Director of International Sales, said. “In this way we are introducing our country to a new generation of travelers while also investing in the future of tourism in South Africa.”
