$100 Spirit Air Bag Fees Coming

Travel agents looking for an insight into the future of baggage fees might check out Spirit Airline’s website that lists all of the existing fees (including bags) plus the new fees that become effective November 6 – including $100 bag fees (for carry-on bags purchased at the gate  - now $45 but going to $100 in November.) Passengers with overweight or oversized bags could also hit the $100 mark.

Spirit Airlines lists eight fee categories with nearly 100 line items, including not only baggage fees, but also seat fees, booking fees, special service fees, Club fees and booking modification fees. One example of fees is “Big Front Seats” booked in advance that can range from $12.00 to $199.00 per seat. Onboard drinks will cost from $1 to $15.

Spirit notes that effective November 6th, 2012, identical bag fees will apply for domestic and international travel. The good news, at least for Spirit shareholders, is that Sprit reported a first quarter 2012 profit of $23.8 million.
