ASTA to Release Statement on Airline Passenger Rights

The American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA) will release a statement on airline passenger rights as early as Wednesday, Paul Ruden, ASTA's senior vice president - legal and industry affairs, told Travel Agent on Tuesday. The statement will include ASTA's take on what rights airline passengers should be granted. The statement is partially in response to recent incidents surrounding JetBlue passengers, Ruden says. It will come shortly after the airline's announcement that it will be unveiling its "Customer Bill of Rights." Ruden declined to give Travel Agent details about the statement before it was released nor would he comment on what he thought JetBlue should include in its "Customer Bill of Rights," but he did say the society's statement was partially influenced by concern from its members. "I wouldn't say there was a lot of pressure (to address the issue)," Ruden says. "But there was enough concern to realize that we had to do something about it, we had to get involved."
