AVIAREPS Enters South Africa

Airline and tourism management company AVIAREPS has set up its first self-owned office on the African continent, in Johannesburg. Air Namibia will act as launch customer for AVIAREPS’ new subsidiary. The national carrier of Namibia currently operates 12 weekly flights from Windhoek to Johannesburg and another 14 from Windhoek to Cape Town.

The team in South Africa will be headed by recently appointed General Manager Charmaine Thomé. She brings along 14 years of experience in the airline business. Her comprehensive know-how is based on various employments in top executive positions at companies such as Abercrombie & Kent, Reins Group, Swiss International Airlines and Nationwide Airlines.

Michael Gaebler, chairman and CEO of AVIAREPS, notes that the company is deliberating its expansion plans very thoroughly given the current economic situation, but says, “South Africa is an interesting emerging market and has been on our road map for a long time. We are pleased that we are now able to operate our activities locally on this market.”

Among the 60 international airlines in 40 countries that currently work with AVIAREPS are Aer Lingus, AeroMexico, American Airlines, South African Airways, SwissAir and United Airlines. The company offers services such as marketing, call center and ticket fulfilment duties, IT and network management, financial services, PR management, BSP/IBCS management and yield optimization.
