Frontier Airlines Will Start Charging Some Travelers for Carry-on Bags

Uh, oh! Airline passengers beware. Another domestic airline plans to charge at least some of its passengers for carry-on bags.

Frontier Airlines (www.flyfrontier.com) said Wednesday that starting this summer it will begin charging passengers who book tickets on third-party websites - such as Expedia and Orbitz - for bringing their bags onboard the flight.

Expect fees ranging from $25 to $100; all customers will still be permitted to bring one personal item (a purse or a briefcase, for example) onboard for free but it must fit under the seat.

The airline said the "start date" for the new carry-on fees will be announced soon.

One way to avoid the fee? Passengers who purchase tickets on Frontier's web site will not incur any additional charges for a carry-on bag.

Frontier's move is similar to that of Spirit Airlines; its carry-on bag rates also range from $25 to $100. Spirit's policy, however, extends to all passengers purchasing tickets including those who do so at the Spirit site.
