New Flights Show Puerto Rico Is Serious About Ponce

About a month ago, we brought you news of Puerto Rico's plans to push Porta Caribe, an area in the southern part of the island, as its new destination, and the launch of Spirit Airlines' nonstop service to Ponce--Porta Caribe's main city--shows that Puerto Rico is backing its promise. Spirit just started daily nonstop service between Fort Lauderdale and Ponce's Mercedita Airport, located only three miles from the city's business district. Ponce is Spirit's third destination in Puerto Rico, after San Juan and Aguadilla.

The carrier serves 22 destinations in the Bahamas, Caribbean and Latin America, and 37 overall. In addition to nonstop service from its Fort Lauderdale base, Spirit will offer connecting service to Ponce from its domestic network. (JP)
