Northwest Union Threatens Strike, One Pact Reached

Northwest Airlines pilots overwhelmingly authorized a strike on Tuesday, if a federal bankruptcy court judge decides to throw out their existing contract. Late Wednesday there was no word on the status of that action, but the company and pilots' union were still talking. The airline did reach a tentative agreement on Wednesday with its flight attendants for pay cuts. The deal was announced on the union's Web site, but no details were given. Union members must still approve that tentative agreement.
