ACAPULCO, Mexico – Travel Agent spoke with members of the Morelos tourism borrad, Vive Morelos, at the annual Mexico Tianguis Turistico and learned that the destination will soon be home to a new internacional airport, which could result in an increase of American tourists.
The destination is primarly a getaway for tourists from Mexico City, but the new airport in Cuernavaca could change that. Cesar Salgado, director general of the International Airport of Cuernavaca says the new, 7,200-square-meter facility will be completed in three months alter nearly one year of construction.
The airport will be home to three gateways and will house planes carrying between 120-150 passengers each. Three airlines are already on board, inclduing Continental Airlines, which will operate a daily flight out of Houston beginning in December.
The other two carriers are Aeromexico and Volaris.
