On Site: New Airport Could Mean Spike In Morelos Tourism

ACAPULCO, MexicoTravel Agent spoke with members of the Morelos tourism borrad, Vive Morelos, at the annual Mexico Tianguis Turistico and learned that the destination will soon be home to a new internacional airport, which could result in an increase of American tourists.

The destination is primarly a getaway for tourists from Mexico City, but the new airport in Cuernavaca could change that. Cesar Salgado, director general of the International Airport of Cuernavaca says the new, 7,200-square-meter facility will be completed in three months alter nearly one year of construction.

The airport will be home to three gateways and will house planes carrying between 120-150 passengers each. Three airlines are already on board, inclduing Continental Airlines, which will operate a daily flight out of Houston beginning in December.

The other two carriers are Aeromexico and Volaris.
