Spirit To Offer Cheap Flights to Medellin

Spirit Airlines says it will begin offering cheap direct flights between Medellín, Colombia, and Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in 2009.

The airline says it will start the flights in March. As a start-up discount, Spirit will offer tickets for the maximum price of US$93, depending on the season and how much in advance the flight is booked. Taxes are excluded from the price.

"The arrival of Spirit marks a new era in the history of tourism in Medellín and Antioquia,” Colombia’s Vice-Minister of Tourism Oscar Rueda Garcia told newspaper El Tiempo. “We are now hoping the best prices will allow more tourism in the region and the country."
Spirit Airlines already has direct flights to Bogotá and Cartagena.
