U.S. Travel Association Applauds Homeland Security Decision

The U.S. Travel Association (www.ustravel.com) applauded the Department of Homeland Security's Secretary Janet Napolitano for granting an extended deadline for compliance with the REAL ID program to U.S. states. U.S. Travel said “this is the right decision for American travelers.”

“Without this extension, millions of travelers might have faced unnecessary and inconvenient secondary security screening at airports across the country starting on January 1, 2010,” noted U.S. Travel. “While this is a welcome holiday gift, we acknowledge that the extension itself is not a long-term solution.

“We support the Secretary's call for Congress to act swiftly in the New Year on PASS ID legislation, which represents consensus for workable standards that meet the 9/11 Commission recommendation to improve identification document security.”
