Vacations By Rail Grows Its Rail-Cruise Product

trainSpecialty travel company Vacations By Rail reports it added two new rail-cruise vacations to its North American product line in 2014, bringing the total number of combination packages throughout the USA, Canada and Europe to 24.

The new 18-day Southwest Chief & Panama Canal vacation takes travelers across America’s southwest aboard Amtrak’s Southwest Chief to Los Angeles for a day of sightseeing before boarding Princess Cruises’ Island Princess ship for a 14-night cruise to Cabo San Lucas (Mexico), San Juan del Sur (Nicaragua), Puntarena (Costa Rica), the Panama Canal, Cartagena (Columbia), and Aruba. March and April departures are available starting at $4,093 per person.

The new 19-day California Zephyr with Hawaiian Cruise itinerary combines a two-night train journey across the Colorado Rockies and Sierra Nevada Mountains aboard the California Zephyr and an overnight stay in San Francisco with a 14-night Hawaiian cruise aboard Princess Cruises’ Grand Princess. Ports of call include Hilo, Honolulu, Kauai, Maui, and Ensenada (Mexico). January through March departures are available starting at $3,070 per person.

Both new vacations offer the option of adding a 4-day/3-night post-trip extension, which returns travelers by train to Chicago. Tailor-made add-ons and extensions are available upon request.

Returning favorites to Vacations By Rail’s 2014 rail-cruise product line combine legendary trains with cruises to Alaska, the Caribbean, Mexico, Canada’s Maritimes region, Atlantic and Pacific coastline cruises in the USA, a transatlantic crossing, and river cruises in the USA and Europe.

“Rail-cruise packages offer travelers the best of both worlds,” explained Todd Powell, president of Vacations By Rail. “Iconic trains throughout North America and Europe travel storied rail routes to port cities, where passengers then embark on a cruise to exciting ports of call. It’s a seamless vacation experience, the utmost in relaxation, and certainly one of our most popular travel types.”

Rail-cruise combination packages include rail transportation and onboard train sleeping accommodations (where applicable), cruise accommodations, select meals, hotel accommodations, and sightseeing per itinerary. Port taxes additional.
