Try "Snuba" at Pacific Beach Hotel's Indoor Oceanarium

Beginning scuba (or snuba) divers can experience the thrill of breathing underwater without the fear of sharks or strong currents at Pacific Beach Hotel’s indoor Oceanarium, in Waikiki.

Snuba, a combination of snorkeling and diving, makes it easy for first-timers by eliminating certification lessons and safe because there is never a worry about rough water or bad weather. Divers breathe through a mouthpiece regulator, attached to a hose up to the surface.

Only two guests dive at a time, for $75 per person, accompanied by an experienced guide for up to 30 minutes. The dives are scheduled Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. until noon and 2 p.m. until 5 p.m.

The 280,000-gallon, three-story Oceanarium contains hundreds of fish of 50 different species, so snuba-ers will never get bored. Divers can safely roam to a depth of 20 feet inside the Oceanarium and feed the fish.

Wetsuits and all other necessary equipment are provided. Anyone can walk into the hotel from Kalakaua Avenue.

Friends and family can watch through the glass in the Oceanarium restaurant and take photos. Pacific Beach Hotel guests also receive a free underwater photo.

Every night, the highlight is the mermaid dive show at 9 p.m. at the Pacific Beach Hotel. The whole family can enjoy both the show and the wonderful evening seafood and prime rib buffet.

Visitors are also treated to daily fish feeding scheduled at 12:30 p.m., 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Often, our dinner guests plan ahead and arrange for a diver to display a special written message right in front of the surprised diner.
