Neil Laughton and James Bingham got into trouble when trying to cross a remote part of western Alaska

Two British adventurers were rescued by the US Coast Guard after becoming stranded in Alaska.

Neil Laughton and James Bingham were attempting to cross-country ski and kayak across the sea ice from Wales to Little Diomede on Thursday.

But the ice was reportedly too thin to walk on and too thick to continue in kayaks, leaving the pair stranded.

They were eventually winched to safety by US Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak aircrews.

Laughton and Bingham, along with other adventurers, are planning a full crossing of the Bering Strait from Russia to the US in March 2017.
