February 27, 2006 By: Edward Fians Travel Agent

Twenty-three national park sites will be increasing entrance fees in 2006 following an increase at 17 sites in July 2005. For instance, travelers to Grand Tetons and Yellowstone parks will get a $5 hike starting May 1-seven-day passes will be $25 and yearly $40 (which get you into both). Boat fees in Grand Teton are on the rise as well. Joshua Tree National Park in Arizona and Shenandoah National Park in Virginia is increasing fees from $10 to $15 per vehicle; yearly passes will be $30. New Mexico's Bandelier National Monument yearly passes will be $30 and the per-car fee will be $12. National parks review fees on an annual basis yet most of the big parks haven't seen an increase in almost 10 years. And, according to the new budget proposed by President Bush earlier this month, NPS could take a $100 million hit (4.3 percent) in funding for 2007.
