The Hotel Riu Palace Meloneras Reopens Following Full Refurbishment

The Hotel Riu Palace Meloneras, which originally opened in 1997, unveiled a new look Friday that has helped the hotel go from from four to five stars.

The refurbishment of this hotel located in the south of Gran Canaria involved an investment of roughly $40 million. It has been carried out both on the complex's exteriors and interiors, following the new style that the RIU Hotels chain is introducing for its latest projects.

The 449 rooms, both in the main building and in the garden villas, have been fully refurbished with contemporary furniture and modern services, such as 42-inch satellite flat screen televisions and free Wi-Fi Internet throughout the hotel. One novelty will be a new 32-room building located right on the Meloneras promenade, in which all the rooms have a unique view of the Atlantic Ocean.

The resort will have six swimming pools. Two of these are infinity pools, which feature the Blue de Mar pool bar and the Ocean's View pool snack-bar, which at night will offer guests all the pleasures of Spanish cuisine; another three pools are dedicated to water sports and full relaxation by a solarium terrace; and another is for the hotel’s young visitors. All these are heated during the winter months.

With its refurbishment, the resort also has a new main restaurant, the Magnolia, which has a spacious terrace with capacity for most of the hotel's guests; so diners can have breakfast or dinner in the open air enjoying the marvellous climate of the Canary Islands, 365 days a year. Furthermore, the resort will continue to offer the Krystal restaurant with new interior décor.

Night-time entertainment is guaranteed in the renovated lounge bar Le Baroque, with live music and shows several times a week, as well as the Rose Mar lobby bar, which also has a large outdoor terrace.
