$3.2 Million Baggage Screening System for BWIOctober 16, 2009 By: Michael Grisafe Travel Agent
Following its announcement of plans to install a new baggage screening system at O’Hare International Airport in Chicago, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has announced an award of $3.2 million to the Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport for enhancements to its baggage handling systems.
With funds derived from the 2009 fiscal year, existing baggage systems will be upgraded with conveyor lines and new areas for baggage screening. This could mean shorter waits for the approximately 20 million passengers that travel yearly through BWI.
Aside from its convenience for travelers, TSA also states that the new systems have advance explosive detection systems. Screening officers are also breathing a sigh of relief because they will no longer be forced to hoist heavy baggage onto conveyor belts.
