China World Trade Ramps Up E-Ticketing in ChinaAugust 14, 2006 By: Camie Foster Travel Agent
China World Trade Corp. (CWTC) says that 75 percent of its air-ticket sales now are in the form of electronic tickets provided by its subsidiary Guangdong New Generation Commercial Management Ltd.—and that it is working to implement e-ticketing by next year throughout China. This target is in line with the goal of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) of replacing paper airline tickets with e-tickets globally next year; China is a member of IATA. As of Feb. 23, an average of 40 percent of ticket sales in Chinese IATA Billing & Settlement Plan agencies were by way of e-ticket, and in cities such as Beijing, Chengdu and Haikou, the rate was already 55 percent or higher, according to CWTC. In addition, almost all domestic carriers in China have joined the e-ticketing system, meaning that the country may complete the switch to e-ticketing as early as the end of this year, CWTC adds.
