Delta Adds to Green Efforts

At the start of this month, Delta Air Lines launched its green initiatives, which include a tree-planting carbon offset program and an expanded recycling program that benefits Habitat for Humanity. Customers who purchase tickets at Delta's web site can choose to contribute $5.50 for domestic roundtrip flights and $11 for international roundtrip flights to The Conservation Fund, which plants trees throughout the United States and abroad. Too, Delta's onboard recycling program has been expanded beyond aluminum cans to include all aluminum, plastic and paper products on domestic flights into the carrier's Atlanta hub. Proceeds will benefit Habitat for Humanity. The carrier noted in a news release that in the first two weeks of the program, Delta recycled approximately five tons of material. Other ongoing environmental programs operated by Delta include fuel conservation initiatives and a system to reduce water consumption. Visit [www.delta.com].
