Delta's Flight Attendants Recall

November 10, 2006 By: Dan Butcher Travel Agent

To support its international expansion, Delta Air Lines Inc. said it will recall 1,000 furloughed flight attendants beginning in January, the Wall Street Journal reports. The Atlanta airline, which is operating under bankruptcy-court protection, recalled more than 250 flight attendants in September, an indication that Delta, along with other U.S. airlines, has benefited from strong passenger demand. Delta also said it swung to a third-quarter net income of $52 million, compared with a loss of $1.13 billion a year ago, thanks in part to a one-time gain due to a drop in previously estimated claims for restructuring of aircraft-financing deals. Delta also cited lower pension costs and a more streamlined fleet. It said operating revenue rose 8.1% to $4.66 billion. Delta said it has about 3,800 flight attendants on furlough.
