Air Serbia has launched its first transatlantic route with five times per week scheduled flights between the airline’s Belgrade hub and New York JFK International Airport, marking the return of direct air links between Serbia and the United States after 24 years.

Etihad Airways, together with three of its other equity partners, Jet Airways, Alitalia and airberlin, helped Air Serbia prepare for the launch of the new route, Etihad said in a statement announcing the new service.

The New York service was scheduled to provide onward connections through Belgrade to cities across Europe, in association with Etihad Airways Partners.

Air Serbia will operate the route on Airbus A330 aircraft configured with 254 seats and offering menus inspired by Serbian cuisine, fully lie-flat seats, and in-flight entertainment systems in every seat.
