GGA Opposes Temporary Caps on NY-NJ Airport Flights

March 27, 2014

new york cityThe Global Gateway Alliance said it opposes the temporary caps placed by the Federal Aviation Administration on capacity at New York City area airports. Starting in 2007, the FAA added these limits on flights at New York and New Jersey airports.

"Capping our airport capacity simply doesn't make sense,” said Joseph Sitt, founder and chairman, GGA. “ It hasn't relieved congestion, as New York area airports were the most delayed in the country last year. It hasn't reduced demand, since our airports now serve more than 111 million passengers a year.”

Sitt also stressed that the caps haven't been temporary since it has been seven years since they were implemented. "Instead of arbitrary caps to shrink our airports, the FAA should be concentrating on new NextGen air traffic technology that will meet passenger demand for more flights and fewer delays,” said Sitt.
