Judge Rules, Northwest Strike Cannot Proceed For Now

August 28, 2006 By: Mike Jaccarino Travel Agent

A U.S. District Court judge told Northwest Airlines employees on Friday they could not strike for the time being. Northwest Airlines had earlier requested an injunction to prevent its employees from striking. A judge denied the request and the airline appealed the decision. On Friday, Judge Victor Marrero ruled that Northwest employees must wait until a court rules on the appeal before taking any work actions. "We are pleased with Judge Marrero's decision to grant the preliminary injunction," said Doug Steenland, president and CEO of Northwest. "We remain committed to negotiating a consensual agreement with our flight attendants and hope to accomplish that goal in the near future." The Association of Flight Attendants, or AFA, recently threatened to strike as it and Northwest negotiate a new contract.
