New U.S. Airline Sets Sights on RussiaMay 24, 2006 By: Susan Young Travel Agent
A new U.S. airline, Baltia Air Lines, based in Terminal 4 at New York's JFK International Airport, is getting ready to start nonstop service to St. Petersburg, Russia with a Boeing 747. Currently, the only other U.S. airline flying to Russia is Delta Air Lines, which flies nonstop to Moscow. Baltia, which is publicly traded on Nasdaq and also listed on Xetra and Frankfurt stock exchanges, says it will provide first, business and coach service on the route. After starting the JFK-St. Petersburg nonstop service, Baltia plans to also fly nonstop from JFK to Riga, Kiev and Minsk. Baltia says it wants a higher level of in-flight service, and has hired top chefs from New York and St. Petersburg to prepare onboard meals.
