Republic Airlines To Expand At Pittsburgh

March 6, 2006 By: Susan Young Travel Agent

Pennsylvania Governor Edward G. Rendell announced that Republic Airlines will establish a new overnight maintenance facility and flight crew base at Pittsburgh International Airport, creating as many as 140 jobs within three years. The $21.4 million project will support the company's growing fleet of "Embraer 170" airplanes. Pennsylvania has been trying to fill the void left by US Airways decision to downsize at Pittsburgh. With help from the Allegheny County Airport Authority and the Allegheny County Department of Economic Development, the state's Community and Economic Development Department joined with the Governor's Action Team to offer Republic Airways a financial package that includes a $150,000 Opportunity Grant, $100,000 in Customized Job Training funds and $280,000 in Job Creation Tax Credits. Republic Airlines is a subsidiary of Republic Airways Holdings, which also operates Chautauqua Airlines and Shuttle America. Republic Airways Holdings offers scheduled passenger service on approximately 800 flights daily to 79 cities in 34 states, Canada and the Bahamas. Republic operates under airline service agreements with four major U.S. airlines: AmericanConnection, Delta Connection, United Express and US Airways Express. Visit [].
