Speedier Screening Plan Moves Forward

Quicker trips through security are on the horizon for frequent fliers now that Verified Identity Pass Inc. has officially been approved as a Registered Traveler Service Provider by the Transportation Security Administration, the Wall Street Journal reports. Registered Traveler is a smart-card program for frequent fliers in which they pay for a background check and a biometric ID card so they can wait in shorter security lines. Verified Identity Pass has been running a pilot effort at Orlando International Airport since July 2005, and Chief Executive Steve Brill said the plan is to add between 12 and 20 airports in the next year. The program, with 32,000 members, is the first program to meet the TSA requirements.
