Spirit Begins Charging for Second Checked Bag

Beginning Saturday, Spirit Airlines will become the first carrier to charge $10 to customers who check more than one bag. The company's marketing chief, Barry Biffle, said the move is a way to increase revenues while maintaining lower fares, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported Tuesday. "It's much higher at holiday time, but right now you might find only 10 percent of the passengers checking two or more bags," Biffle told the paper.
