United Airlines Beefs Up PacAsia LiftJuly 28, 2006 By: Camie Foster Travel Agent
United Airlines is boosting its service to Asia and the Pacific by adding 40 flights a week. Among the additions is a daily nonstop between Washington-Dulles (IAD) and Tokyo's Narita Airport (NRT). This flight begins Oct. 28; it replaces the carrier's Tokyo service from New York-JFK. United also is reinstating its service between San Francisco (SFO) and Taipei (TPE) on a daily basis beginning April 1, 2007. In addition, the carrier is changing its San Francisco-Seoul service from seasonal to year-round in October, and is adding three more flights a week between San Francisco and Hong Kong on April 1, 2007. In related news, United is selling its New York-London route authority to Delta Airlines; this is subject to several conditions, including approval by the U.S. Department of Transportation. The sale will result in United stopping its JFK-London Heathrow service at the end of October.
