U.S. Judge Delays Ruling on Mesaba Union Strike

October 18, 2006 By: Dan Butcher Travel Agent

A bankruptcy judge delayed a ruling Tuesday night on blocking union workers from striking Mesaba Aviation Inc., but also barred the Northwest Airlines feeder airline from imposing new contract terms at midnight, the AP reports. Mesaba had said it would impose terms at 1:01 a.m. EDT on Wednesday if it got the injunction it was seeking and the two sides hadn't reached agreement. The unions had said they'd strike if that happened–something that could put Mesaba permanently out of business. A decision is expected late this week or early next week.
