U.S. Travel Association Commends TSA for Expanded Pre-Check

business travelerThe U.S. Travel Association has sent out kudos to the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) for expanding PreCheck. Eligible program participants will receive expedited screening on select international travel itineraries starting today.

PreCheck is part of TSA's efforts to move away from a one-size-fits-all model to a more intelligence-driven, risk-based system. "By removing more known, low-risk travelers from the regular screening process, PreCheck will only increase aviation security efficiency and consistency," said Roger Dow, president and CEO, U.S. Travel Association.

"We commend TSA for identifying creative ways to enhance the trusted PreCheck program and making the passenger screening process more efficient while maintaining security," Dow said, noting that U.S. Travel looks forward to working with TSA on other vital security measures that encourage travel and strengthen the economy.

TSA's announcement extends PreCheck to eligible passengers on select international itineraries:

Traveling on Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, United Airlines and US Airways from the 40 participating TSA PreCheck airports; and those travelers arriving in the United States with connecting domestic flights.

Eligible passengers include U.S. citizens who are members of certain airline frequent flier programs or are members of U.S. Customs and Border Protection Trusted Traveler programs, including Global Entry, SENTRI and NEXUS.

PreCheck participants use dedicated screening lanes; they may leave on shoes, light outerwear and belts, and also leave their laptops and 3-1-1 compliant liquids in carry-on bags.

As a member of TSA's Aviation Security Advisory Committee International Subcommittee, U.S. Travel has advocated expansion of PreCheck to qualified international travelers.
