Virgin Announces Results of Fleet-Naming Contest

Virgin America is tapping celebrities and customers alike to help name its new fleet. Last October, the airline's first aircraft was named Jefferson Airplane by the namesake band's lead singer, Grace Slick. Following that, Virgin America held an online contest for customers to name eight of its aircraft and the winners are: Airplane 2.0, An Airplane Named Desire; Contents May Be Under Pressure; Fog Cutter; Jane; Mach Daddy; Virgin & Tonic; and Winner of Naming Contest. Designer Jonathan Adler and co-editors of the blog Boing Boing also were asked to come up with names, choosing Chic Mobile and Unicorn Chaser, respectively. The uniquely named planes should begin flight services within the next 12 to 18 months. Visit [www.virginamerica.com].
