Britain Relaxes Carry-On Baggage Restrictions

Britain is relaxing restrictions on carry-on baggage Friday, and is now allowing musical instruments and essential liquids to be carried on planes, the government has announced. The Department for Transport said Thursday that one carry-on bag will be permitted per passenger, with a new larger maximum size of 56 centimeters by 45 centimeters by 25 centimeters (about 22 inches by 18 inches by 10 inches). Musicians with large instruments will be able to carry them aboard aircraft after the instrument has been screened. Severe limits on carry-on baggage had been imposed after police announced on August 10 that they had busted an alleged plot to bring down U.S.-bound aircraft with liquid-based explosives.
