New Policy for Continental Airlines' Baggage Check

Travelers flying between Europe and the United States, and U.S. territories such as Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, should take note of changes to Continental Airlines’ baggage check policy.

The new policy allows customers purchasing certain economy class tickets for travel on or after the effective date to check only one bag for free with a charge of $50 for a second checked bag.  Customers can get a $5 discount by checking in and pre-paying for their bags ahead of time at continental.com.

This new policy is effective immediately for tickets purchased on or after August 27 for travel on or after September 15, and applies to all flights operated by Continental Airlines between the United States and Europe.

This charge will not affect EliteAccess customers including those seated in First or BusinessFirst, OnePass Elite and SkyTeam Elite members, customers traveling on full-fare economy (Y) class tickets, Continental Airlines Presidential Plus primary cardmembers or military personnel and their families traveling on official orders.

Continental’s other policies for baggage remain unchanged and the usual fees for oversized baggage still apply.
