Globus Absorbs New European TaxesAugust 24, 2011 By: George Dooley Travel Agent
Popular European destinations such as Rome, Florence, Venice and Giardini Naxos (Sicily) have announced and implemented new city taxes, affecting the cost of travel for countless Americans, Globus reports. The good news is that travelers on Globus and Cosmos tours as well as Monograms’ all-in-one, independent vacation packages will benefit from Globus' decision to absorb the costs of the new taxes.
“In addition to placing great value on our travelers’ time by offering them authentic, insightful and stress-free experiences worldwide, we value their money,” said Scott Nisbet, president and CEO of the Globus family of brands. “By absorbing new European city taxes, we’re not only ensuring our travelers the best deal, we’re showing them how much we appreciate their loyalty.”
Taking on the cost of newly enforced city taxes for travelers is not a new concept for Globus: The company did the same when Cologne tacked on new taxes in 2010.
The new taxes charged by these popular tourist destinations are between €1 and €5 per person, per night, depending on hotel star ratings, costing the company more than $1 million in 2011.
