Viceroy Anguilla on a Roll; 2012 Opening of St. Lucia Property Should Keep Company’s Caribbean Momentum Going

Travel Agent was on hand Thursday morning for a media breakfast hosted by the Viceroy Hotel Group and learned about the Viceroy Anguilla’s ongoing success and about the upcoming opening of the company’s first Tides resort in the Caribbean.

In Anguilla, the Viceroy Anguilla, which officially opened earlier this year, has had a strong inaugural year, putting pressure on such competing Anguilla powerhouses like Cap Juluca and the recently renamed CuisinArt Golf Resort & Spa.

“I think we are hot because whenever you have a new property on a popular island, people want to check it out and see what its all about,” says Brent R. Hall, associate director of sales for Viceroy Anguilla. “It’s been a great year and the holidays are looking solid as well.”

Also, on Monday, the property put the finishing touches on new tennis and basketball courts, a new rock climbing wall and a revamped Kid's Club.

“We’ve seen that people are beginning to look for a little bit more than just sun and beach,” says Michael J. Lorenz vice president of sales and market strategy for Viceroy. “They want some activities, so we gave it to them.”

Meanwhile, the Jalousie Plantation, Sugar Beach on the scenic Eastern Caribbean island of St. Lucia is undergoing a $100 million enhancement that will eventually see the property re-branded and re-launched as The Tides, Sugar Beach in 2012.

Located on Sugar Beach in the Val des Pitons (Valley of the Pitons), a UNESCO World Heritage site, the Jalousie Plantation has an impressive setting with more than 100 acres of virgin rainforest and the only white sand beach in the south west of the island. There are also new rooms, two brand new bars (The Cane Bar and Late Night Bar) and two new restaurants (The Great Room and Bayside).

The resort is also developing a new Rainforest Spa complete with tree house treatment rooms to and recently re-opened fully renovated Luxury Sugar Mill Rooms with private walled gardens and outdoor Jacuzzis.

Described as "plantation elegant," the new villa suites offer butler service, four-poster beds, luxurious high thread count Egyptian cotton linens and more.
