explora Honors Chilean Rescue Workers with Free Hotel Getaway

It took days of intense training and more than 24 hours of continuous work, but all the effort paid off as an expert team of Chilean rescuers helped bring the 33 miners trapped beneath the earth to safety. Upon overcoming the technical, medical and psychological challenges of their mission, the 17 rescue workers received the greatest award of all: The infinite gratitude of the miners, their families, and the whole of Chile.

Now, as the dust settles on their internationally renowned mission, the rescue team will enjoy a much-deserved rest with a complimentary, all-inclusive, three-night getaway to Hotel de Larache in the Atacama Desert, courtesy of the Santiago-based travel operator explora.

The same desert that was pierced to bring the miners back to safety is a remarkable destination for stress-reducing recovery that the rescue team so richly deserves. Upon arriving in Hotel de Larache, all 17 rescuers will have their pick of a range of adventurous diversions both onsite and nearby explora’s lodge, including horseback riding, cycling, walking, and observing the heavens through Hotel de Larache’s observatory, or simply enjoying the luxury facilities and accommodations.

explora’s invitation to the miners has already received its share of attention. Informed of explora’s intentions, Chilean President Sebastian Pinera greeted the rescuers at the joyous conclusion of their mission and was heard to say: “You have won a well-deserved rest, guys. See you in Pedro de Atacama.”

Josef Stirnimann, general manager of explora Atacama, noted that explora’s offer was made purely as a gesture of thanks for the efforts and bravery of the 17 rescuers. “We think it is only right that after a long, intense day of work in the area, these gentlemen should be able to rest, enjoy and experience the beauty of the desert from another point of view, through different eyes,” he said.
