Cruise Holidays, North America's largest cruise-specialty retail franchise, presented its "Community Service Award" to Jan-Evert Hermans, Annemari Hermans and Inga Nielsen of Cruise Holidays of Port Coquitlam, BC, for their work with the Scandinavian Community Centre of Vancouver. Another Community Service Award was given to Bruce and Lynn Rogers of Cruise Holidays of Frederick, MD, for their work with the Frederick County Special Olympics. The Rogers' volunteer efforts included the donation of a cruise to be raffled off. In addition, they used their expertise and business connections to provide the printing of the tickets and signs, and tapped local organizations to find individuals to help sell raffle tickets. The cruise raffle raised $10,000, which was used to send 67 athletes and coaches to the Summer Games, training in skiing and bowling, along with safe equipment and new uniforms.
