Tamarind Cove Hotel will be rechristened Tamarind on November 1, following a multimillion-dollar investment by BarbadosElegant Hotels Group. Travel Agent brings you the latest on the new-look property as well as other “elegant resorts” in the group.

Tamarind will have 104 fully renovated and modernized guest rooms, a new spa and relaxation space, two redesigned restaurants—including 246. a stylish new late-night poolside tapas lounge and a new deck, which brings the beach backdrop into the dining experience.

Pool and communal areas at the resort will have contemporary sun-loungers, daybeds and decks, transforming outdoor spaces into “living rooms,” which can be used for dining, drinking, relaxing and events.

On the family front, Tamarind will introduce a newly designed Kids Club, which will be rolled out across the Elegant Hotels collection. The kids club will cater to a range of ages, while a separate “teen lounge” will be a place for teenagers to hang out and relax while on vacation. The lounge will have the latest in teen technology, including a large screen for playing Wii and popular game consoles as well as activities on and off the resort.

Guest rooms and suites will be spread over three floors. (Note:  There are no elevators.) Each room will have a rich blend of tropical and Mediterranean influences delivered in a casual, contemporary style along with brand-new, king-size beds, mostly 32-inch flat TVs, a clock radio with an iPod and MP3 docking station and more.

The House

The House sits along the famed “Platinum” west coast of Barbados, upon a stretch of beach overlooking the waters of the Caribbean Sea.

At this boutique adults-only hotel, there are just 34 suites, all with iPod docks, air conditioning, marble bathrooms, Egyptian cotton linens and more. “The House Ambassadors” greet guests with cold towels and a cool tropical drink on arrival. It doesn’t end there. The Ambassador service is available 24/7. Guests are entitled to a number of services free of charge: a Jet Lag Revival Massage; beach and pool service, including cool towels, fruit and ice cream on the 750-foot stretch of sandy beach; and champagne breakfast, afternoon tea and evening canapés.


 The House
Junior Suite guests at The House are treated to Ambassador service, which provides a number of luxuries 24/7.


An air-conditioned fitness room and complimentary non-motorized water sports, including snorkeling, sailing, boogie boards, kayaking, windsurfing and water-skiing available at the next-door Tamarind, lure those who want to rough it out a bit.  A Library has board games and computer with complimentary Internet access. While Wi-Fi is available for free in some public areas of the hotel, guests are charged a nominal fee for in-room high-speed Internet access.

Colony Club

Also on the “Platinum Coast,” 40 minutes from Grantley Adams airport and 20 minutes from downtown Bridgetown, the Colony Club sits amid 7 acres of tropical gardens.

This resort has 96 guest rooms and suites, each with a private patio or balcony and some with private access to the lagoon pool. Room amenities include cable TV, air conditioning, bath tub and shower, hair dryer, clock radio, stocked minibar and more. Four freshwater swimming lagoons and whirlpool, a swim-up bar, two floodlit tennis courts, fitness center and complimentary Wi-Fi are other attractions. The resort serves full breakfast daily and provides twice-daily maid service or turndown with complimentary water nightly.

Colony Club has two restaurants and bars each: The Laguna Restaurant and The Orchid Room and The Sunset Bar & Deck and The Planters Bar, respectively. 

Crystal Cove Hotel

Accommodations at the all-inclusive Crystal Cove include 88 guest rooms and suites, each with private patio or balcony. Three freshwater lagoon swimming pools and a swim-up bar are available, along with beach ambassador service. There is also a Kids Club with activities for children ages 3-11.

Poolside is Reflections, the main hotel restaurant with ocean views, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. Drifters Beach Bar, an informal, open-air restaurant and beachside bar specializes in Bajan-style barbecue (operating hours are subject to weather conditions).

The Cave Bar is famous for its waterfall. Guests can swim through the waterfall to reach the bar or enter from the hotel. Table areas are carved from rock with tapestry cushions for comfort.

Turtle Beach

Turtle Beach can be spotted on a 1,500-foot stretch of white sandy beach along the lively south coast, only minutes from St Lawrence Gap, an area known for its nightlife and restaurants.

This all-inclusive resort has 164 junior and one-bedroom suites with either a balcony or patio. Room amenities include air conditioning, hair dryer, satellite TV, mini-fridge, etc.

The property boasts tropical gardens, two freeform freshwater swimming pools and whirlpool and a children’s splash pool. Complimentary non- motorized water sports include windsurfing, boogieboarding, kayaking and sailing Hobie Cats.

Two floodlit tennis courts, an air-conditioned fitness center and aerobics and aquacise engage those who want to avoid activities on water. An Internet Café has computer and complimentary web access; some public areas allow free Wi-Fi access; and in-room high-speed Internet is available for a nominal fee.
