Nikki’s Caribbean Takeover

June 9, 2008 By: Joe Pike Travel Agent

Hotel company’s aggressive plans for the region keep growing

It seems as though a week doesn’t go by without yet another announcement of a new project from Nikki Beach Hotels and Resorts. Travel Agent sat down with Michael Register, executive vice president of business development for Nikki Beach Worldwide, to get a full recap.

nikki beach hotels and resorts

Bright colors and exotic locations attract a young clientele to Nikki Beach Hotels and Resorts.

Nikki resorts attract younger guests with a lot of money. Now, to clarify, Register says the resorts, mainly the flagship property Nikki Beach Resort Turks & Caicos, have guests ranging from 25 to 80 years old, but we got the impression that this a resort best suited for younger clients with money. Target the sons and daughters of your baby-boomer clients.

The chain is developing small properties (in the range of about 45 to 180 hotel rooms) in locations that have not been overly exposed or developed. In all, Nikki Beach Hotels and Resorts is planning on at least 15 properties everywhere from the Caribbean to the Middle East.

Nikki Beach Hotels and Resorts celebrated the grand opening of its first-ever luxury resort with a party at Nikki Beach Resort Turks & Caicos Islands on April 5. The property has extended grand-opening rates, and now clients who book by June 30 can receive 30 percent off of nightly room rates on travel through September 30. Phase One of Nikki Beach Resort Turks & Caicos Islands includes a 48-room, condo-hotel resort, Nikki Beach Club and VIP Ultra Lounge, as well as a mega-yacht marina. Phase Two, which will open in 2010, will add an additional 110-room, condo-hotel resort, casino and spa.

In addition, this past month Nikki announced plans for a Grenada property. Peter de Savary, chairman and founder of Port Louis, Grenada, has agreed to an investment development plan that calls for approximately 90 luxury villas (between 4,000 and 6,000 square feet each) and apartments. The properties will overlook the Port Louis village, the Caribbean Sea and a marina that offers more than 300 yacht berths. Savary is partnering with Park Town Capital plc to develop the project. Nikki Beach, in partnership with The De Savary Group, plans to construct a six-star resort/hotel/club with up to 180 rooms and suites within Port Louis. For more information, visit

Register also told us that Nikki is on the verge of signing a deal to build a property on Antigua. Details haven’t been ironed out yet, but expectations are for about 75 to 125 rooms. Another resort in Roatan, off the Caribbean coast of Honduras, will be the centerpiece of the destination’s Blue Ocean Reef Development when it opens in 2010.

In addition to the Roatan and Grenada projects, which are signed, Nikki Beach is developing sites in the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Barbados and St Lucia. Opening dates for these properties are not yet available.

If Nikki is able to achieve all of its goals, agents could have a host of new properties throughout the Caribbean to pitch to young and affluent clients.
