ONSITE: First Cancun News Media Marketplace Held in New York

NEW YORK-Travel Agent was on site Tuesday for the first Cancun New Media Marketplace in New York, attended by about 35 Cancun-focused suppliers. The event is the first of what organizers hope will be an annual event. From talking to most of the attendees, Travel Agent learned there is a heavy focus on luxury resorts in the destination and that measures are being taken by most properties to attract more families. The event was established to create awareness of this, Travel Agent was told. For example, Dream Resorts and Spas, an AM Resorts property, says plans are underway to offer dolphin-swimming activities, as six baby dolphins arrived at the property on Saturday. Such activities are very rare in Cancun and are expected to draw more families to the resort. Club Med announced it would unveil its new program, Passworld, aimed at teens. Each Club Med Passworld is specifically designed to give teenage vacationers an experience that will include theater, sound-mixing and jewelry making classes.
