Hertz Plans Major Expansion in 2010

February 18, 2010 By: George Dooley

Approximately 150 off-airport car rental locations and 10 equipment rental locations will be opened in 2010 as part of the Hertz Corporation’s new expansion program. The openings are part of a company wide strategy to continue expanding in the car rental off airport market. The equipment rental expansion is part of a strategy to tap into those markets emerging from the recession as well as to provide onsite support to key industries, such as the petro-chemical industry.

"We're optimistic that the economy will continue to stabilize in 2010," commented Mark P. Frissora, chairman and CEO for The Hertz Corporation. "With these strategic openings, in both the car and equipment rental markets, our goal is to be properly positioned so that we will be able to capitalize upon these key markets once the economy begins to rebound."

The car rental expansion confirms Hertz' commitment to serving customers seeking to rent cars for insurance replacement, business trips, vacations and everyday purposes. Serving the insurance replacement industry for almost 10 years, Hertz currently has more than 1,600 off-airport locations that reach customers in the top 50 metropolitan areas.

Hertz is a recognized supplier to more than 193 of the 209 largest insurance companies. Hertz Local Edition provides customers with a full range of rental vehicles, including compact through full-size cars and SUVs, and Hertz #1 Club Gold counter service. The majority of Hertz Local Edition locations offer pickup and drop-off service and insurance replacement rentals.

In addition to taking advantage of worldwide geographical opportunities, Hertz Equipment Rental said it is expanding services as well. In select locations, customers now have the ability to rent cars and trucks through Hertz Local Edition -- from one convenient location. While this program allowed Hertz to take advantage of obvious synergies, it was also the catalyst for launching Hertz Entertainment Services, a division dedicated to the special vehicles and equipment needs of the film and entertainment industries.

Hertz Energy Services, which plays a significant role in the supplying the power requirements for the Entertainment group, also provides power for temporary, stand-by or emergency response situations, Hertz said. These initiatives add to an already successful stable of programs Hertz Equipment offers customers, such as Hertz Plant Services which caters to large industrial clients, Hertz Service Pump for custom pump configurations, and Hertz Aerial for manlift equipment.

Hertz Equipment Rental maintains a fleet of late model construction and industrial equipment air compressors and tools, earthmoving equipment, forklifts and material handling equipment, pumps, as well as trucks and trailers. The company also rents small tools, equipment and contractors' supplies. With approximately 250 locations in the U.S. and Canada, Hertz Equipment Rental offers daily, weekly, monthly and long-term rentals, tools and supplies, as well as new and used equipment for sale.

Hertz is the world's largest general use car rental brand, operating from approximately 8,100 locations in 145 countries worldwide. Hertz also lays claim to be the number one airport car rental brand in the U.S. and at 42 major airports in Europe, operating both corporate and licensee locations in cities and airports in North America, Europe, Latin America, Australia and New Zealand.

Product and service initiatives such as Hertz #1 Club Gold, NeverLost customized, onboard navigation systems, SIRIUS Satellite Radio, and unique cars and SUVs offered through the company's Prestige, Fun and Green Collections, set Hertz apart from the competition, Hertz says.

Hertz also operates the global car sharing club, Connect by Hertz, in New York City, Berlin, London, Madrid and Paris.
