Air France-KLM's chief executive became the second Alitalia board member to step down this week, leaving Italy's struggling national carrier with just two members on its board. On Monday, Gabriele Checchia resigned to focus on responsibilities as Italy's ambassador to Lebanon and on Wednesday Jean-Cyril Spinetta of Air France said he could not remain on the board because of the government's decision to sell the airline. However, Spinetta's decision further spurred speculation of industry observers that Air France-KLM is a potential buyer of the Italy's offering of a 30.1 percent share of Alitalia.
