Project Pink, Inc. and Sandals Foundation Partner to Fight Breast Cancer in the Caribbean

Project Pink, Inc. has announced its partnership with Sandals Resorts International and Sandals Foundation in its first-ever initiative to raise awareness of breast cancer among Caribbean women. This partnership would also provide needed support to those who are dealing with the disease.

Throughout the month of October, the Sandals Foundation is collecting donations and designating them to Project Caribbean. The collected funds will go directly toward joint efforts between the two non-profits in providing educational materials about breast health/cancer to the Caribbean and holding informational clinics within the region, using specially designed educational materials. Women will learn about the risk factors of breast cancer, the importance of diet and exercise, tools for smoking cessation, and the proper screening needed to help prevent the disease. The project will also work with local groups to fund on-site mammograms.

Project Pink, Inc. will also extend its Project Joy! program into the Caribbean. It is a wish-granting program designed for the women and men battling the disease. Project Joy! will allow them the opportunity to enjoy an event or wish that they might have never had. Its intentions are to improve the quality of their lives in ways that the medical field alone cannot provide.

Alison Caudle, founder of Project Pink, Inc., said, “We are very grateful to Sandals Resorts and The Sandals Foundation for their invaluable help in this effort to educate men and women about good breast health. Project Caribbean will most certainly help save lives.”

According to Heidi Clarke, director of programs for the Sandals Foundation, “Breast cancer affects all of us but particularly here in the Caribbean, there’s an even greater need to educate and spread the word about early detection. We are so delighted to be partnering with Project Pink, Inc. to do our part to influence women about the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle while affording them the educational information and tools to support breast health to ultimately save their life.”

Project Pink, Inc. and the Sandals Foundation plan to host the first Project Caribbean in Jamaica in early 2012.
